Fair@Square 2011 Volunteer roles:
Fair@Square Fair Trade+Ethical Festival 2011 is an annual event taking
place at Federation Square Melbourne on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of December
2011.
Fair@Square is the biggest Fair and Ethical Trade Festival in Melbourne,
last year it attracted 59,000 people from around Victoria.
We are seeking highly motivated individuals who have a genuine interest
in social responsibility, fair and ethical trade and sustainability.
The Co-ordinator's position is of high significance and requires leadership
skills. The co-ordinator will be responsible for designing, resourcing,
implementing and delivering a particular component of the festival.
The current roles available are:
Fair
Talk Co-ordinator Role
What is Fair Talk
Fair Talk aim it to exchange thought and opinions about
issues concerning social, economic and environmental sustainability
via business practices. It
aims to challenge current economic values versus more sustainable and
alternative values. It aims to educate the public about issues and challenges
attached to production ad consumer decisions. It aims to provide information
so that people can start making a difference with changes in their won
behaviour; it encourages open dialogues and opens a forum for discussion.
The Fair Talk Co-ordinaotor
The Fair Talk Co-ordinator will need to design a
mentally stimulating program of topics for discussions for the Fair Talk
Tent.
The co-ordinator will need to also source speakers, presenters, hosts,
liaise from start to finish, organize a timing schedule and the activity
over the two days.
The applicant will need to:
- Be Organised and has good time management
skills
- have a sound knowledge, interest or passion in the topic matter
- have good communication skills both oral and written
- Must be professional
Fair Indulgence Co-ordinator Role
What is Fair Indulgence
Food forms a big part of our life; we are avid
consumers of food to the point where the production of food has a negative
social, economic and environmental
impact on the world. Fair Indulgence aims to provide alternative views
and ways in regards to food production, consumption and processing as
well as providing cultural elements, traditions and solutions all by
cooking and having fun.
The Fair Indulgence Co-ordinator
The Fair Indulgence Co-ordinator will need to
have a passion and curiosity for food and food related topics. The co-ordinator
will
need to design a two-day cooking program that will also need to deliver
a strong educational and cultural component. In other words education
via cooking.
The applicant will need to:
- Have a passion for food and food related topics
- Have some experience with the food and hostpitality industry
- Be inspired by cultural foods
- Well organised
- Have good communication and time management skills
Fair Art Co-ordinator Role
What is Fair Art
This is a new component to the festival and it aims to
bring together elements of homelessness and fair trade in the one space.
It also aims to inspire
people by demonstrating what can be achieved by engaging and collaborating
with often socially excluded and marginalized groups in our community.
Fair Art is collaboration between Moral Fairground and Youth Projects
Fair Art Co-ordinator
The Fair Art Co-ordinator will need to create a concept
for the Fair Art Exhibition, put together a detailed brief for the
concept, source necessary resources and work with collaborators from
start to finish. The co-ordinator will also be responsible for the
logistics of the art exhibition.
The applicant will need to
- Have a background arts related fields
- Be creative and able to think outside the square
- Able to work with different collaborators
- Have an interest in social and economic sustainability
- be able to deal with challenges
Volunteers' Co-ordinator Role
This role requires leadership, people and communication skills. The volunteer
co-ordinator will be sponsible for sourcing 70 to 100 volunteers, managing
the volunteers and run the volunteers' information session before the
festival.
PR Co-ordinator
Role
We are seeking a person with an understanding of Fair Trade and with
good communication skills to promote Fair@Square. The person will be
responsible for all PR and Marketing in:
- promoting Fair@Square Fair Trade + Ethical Festival via different mediums
including media, web, radio, TV.
- Put together a PR Campaing for Fair@Square
- Writing media releases
- Contact relevant media and industry groups to promote the event
- Keep to timeline
The person applying for the must have an understanding of what Fair Trade is
about and but be a good communicator, self-motivated, passionate, ability to
work independently and organised.
The successful application will be able to work from home but will be required
to communicate with the Fair@Square Directors on a regular basis.
As
we are at the conceptual stage of the Festival we are open to ideas
and suggestions in regards to he various activities at the Festival.
The successful applicants will be required to attend a monthly meeting
with other co-ordinators and will work closely with the Festival Organisers.
