Char Bee Hoon - Fried Noodle for Mother Earth

CHAR BEE HOON - Fried Noodle for Mother Earth

Each year, there is the Nine Emperors Deities festival, a Taoist festival celebrated by some Chinese Malaysians. During these 9 days of celebration, devotees go on a vegetarian meal plan. One of my childhood dishes during this festival is char bee hoon. Char means to fry and bee means rice in my mother's tongue, viz, Hokkien dialect. So this dish is simply "fried rice vermicelli"(noodles) with veggies and tofu, nuts and seeds. The main sustainable elements in this dish are: plant food, cooked very quickly hence using very little energy.

SEVDAH

SEVDAH

SEVDAH is very authentic music from Bosnia and Herzegovina which dates back to around 1600.

SEVDALINKA is generally very strong and heartfelt music with equal importance between poetry and melody. It is often an expression of love between lovers, mother and child, nature and human beings and must be felt within and told as a story.

Thousands of SEVDAH songs have been written and enjoyed around Balkan’s but somehow it was best kept and preserved from losing its true meaning in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

YASSNA, Jasna Dolic is a Bachelor of Music graduate and has worked tirelessly on sharing SEVDAH with her brother Yasmin Dolic and traditional SAZ player Mr Kadir Dulović,  in Australia for over two decades.

She is the first artist to have appeared on SBS Australia radio, tv stations, various universities and theatres stages and hopes to be performing SEVDAH with a symphony orchestra in the future.
